Welcome Raine O'Tierney and her new story Sweet Giordan, Please Remember!

 

 

Please help me give a very good friend of mine, Raine O'Tierney, who I call the Punctuation Wrangler. She is here with her new release, Sweet Giordan, Please Remember from Dreamspinner Press. Here is my interview of Miss Raine!

So, for those who don’t know—how did you and I meet?

We met, as authors, often do—teasing each other on FB over pictures of half-naked men! And then, to protect your honor, I threatened to take punctuation and grammar (those bitches!) out into the alley and beat them up for you. J Friends ever since!

Tell us about the very early days of writing for you. Where did Raine O'Tierney's writing start? What genre?

Bubblegum short stories. No, seriously, stories about gum. Third grade, a girl in my class was writing about bubblegum and I thought, “Oh, I can do that so much better.”

I have a picture of a family tree here. Tell me how a family tree relates to Sweet Giordan and your Hearts in Reverie series.

FAMILY TREE! Actually, I’m a little distracted because that tree is so pretty, JC! Uh…anyway, yes! I can, from memory, make a family tree of all of the families in the Hearts in Reverie series (and have!) Doesn’t seem like much with just the Devereaux and Stone families, but throw in the Aaron, Bentley, Willows, Westbrook, Armand, Grey, Fontaine, and Duncan families and take them all four generations deep and family tree becomes a Redwood forest.

Testing your memory (because you said you never forget anything). You once told me that you didn't write that well. I gave you a one-word answer to that statement. What was that answer? Hmmm? Hmmm?

OMG. This is punishment for that time I publicly shamed you about not understanding fanart, isn’t it? FINE! You win! I forgot! (Even though I didn’t ACTUALLY forget. You actually said “STOP!” but apparently it’s some other one-word answer!) So what is it???!?! You’ve defeated my previously undefeated memory! ^_~

 Tell us about fan art and what you love about it. Is there you have done fan art for recently (hint, hint)?

Ahem, yes! I did do fanart for one Shaney Mills from Curiosity Killed Shaney which this one author wrote… Can’t recall his name… But I DO remember that said author sent it back like FOUR TIMES because it wasn’t to his specifications! *FAN*art!

Inquiring minds want to know: You are on a tropical island, lying on the beach. You have a book in your hand, a drink, a tray of food and a waiter. What island are you on? What are you reading? What are you drinking? What are you eating? What is that name of your waiter? What is he wearing (grrr) and what wish he will fulfill for you at the moment?

I’m on an island where it rains a LOT, but my umbrella is keeping me dry! I’m drinking banana daiquiris and eating sushi, reading Mishima Kazuhiko yaoi manga. My waiter’s name is Rocco and he’s wearing the weird gold mesh thing Khan was wearing when they revived him in Star Trek: TOS (What? I liked it!) and honestly… I’m wishing Mr. Rocco would fishbone braid my hair. *shivers* Love having my hair played with! Wait, what would you do with him??

 

You can write anything you want, any genre, any character, any story and it will be an automatic brilliant best seller. What will you write?

The quintessential first love, first time, fidelity, forever-ending SWEETNESS M/M love story!

 

I hear you have another writer living in your home. Who is he and what does he write? Any collaborations going on with said author?

Oh, that guy! Yeah, that would be Siôn O’Tierney, my hubs. He writes really phenomenal epic fantasy and science-fiction, and sometimes—when I smile at him just right—he collaborates with me on M/M romance. We just subbed a steampunk/fantasy M/M rom novella and we’re working on a weird west M/M rom, too. Yeah, he’s pretty much the coolest husband ever.

 

I heard rumors that you may have a story in the works that includes one brown haired, green-eyed man who falls for a straight man. Any truth to that rumor?

Ma-a-a-a-a-a-y-be. And he might be in the novel-length sequel to Under the Table and Into His Heart (for those who are familiar with the host bar story). J

 

You work in a library. Can you please explain the Dewey Decimal System to us? (LOL, just kidding). Tell us the best part about being a librarian (besides being able to fondle books all day long!).

Oh, thank god that was a joke! Because…I…uh…totally…can explain it to you. >.> But I…uh…don’t want to waste your time. Ahem! Anyway, unfortunately, I work at HQ and no longer get to fondle books, pretty much, ever. Best part of being a librarian? Having a job that I know provides an important service to my community. We make a difference in people’s lives! Plus, they let me keep a fish at my desk, and that’s pretty cool.

 

You love hats. That is no secret. Tell us about the best hat you’ve ever owned or worn. Tell us why hats.

Best hat I own right now is a toss-up between my handmade tiny top hat with the opalescent wrapping and the bright green bow and my black fascinator with the netting. I have NO idea how I got into hats, but once I started, it was an addiction. I now invite other authors to don their own best hats and visit me at The Hat Party to answer weird questions.

 

You once told me you had a dachshund on your butt and I asked if it was a fashion statement. What was your slogan? 

 

As if I would forget this! <3 Ahem, “Accent your bottom with a big weiner!”

Sweet Giordan, Please Remember by Raine O'Tierney

Giordan Stone is lucky, all things considered. Sure, he spent five years in a coma only to wake with a right leg that’s practically useless and no memories other than his name. But now he’s under the care of sassy southern surrogate mother, Chloe Devereaux, spending his days painting and healing. Giordan wants for nothing at all… until he looks out the window one morning and sees Chloe's gorgeous son, Shane, standing there. Something very familiar stirs in Giordan.

When he sketches, Giordan is able to go into an “art trance” where pieces of disjointed memory come back to him without time or place. More and more of these flashes are of Shane Devereaux and the intense, intimate experiences they shared together. Even though Shane keeps his distance now, Giordan is convinced his flashes are real. But he doesn’t have the whole story. Giordan is determined to fill in his memory blanks and convince Shane his feelings are genuine.

 

Excerpt

“Julian, listen. I know that I know this man. I just can’t remember…. Who is he?”

“He’s Chloe and Remy’s son,” Julian said, a touch stiffly.

Giordan shut his eyes tightly and rubbed at one temple. “Yes, Chloe already said. She also said we can’t really know each other anymore, that it’s been too long or something. Whatever that means. But come on, Julian…. Who is he? Really? Because I just….”

Julian was quiet for a long time, and Giordan let him be quiet. He could hear the bustle of a busy restaurant or office in the background and knew they hadn’t been disconnected, so he waited for confirmation that he wasn’t crazy, that Giordan had—at some point—known this Shane Devereaux. Really known him.

When finally he couldn’t stand it anymore, he whispered, “Julian, when I saw him, it’s like all the air went out of the room.”

“Gio, you’re killing me.”

“Whatever it is I felt for him, it was strong. Really strong. And so maybe he doesn’t know me anymore, but I know him. I’m certain I do.”

“Giordan.”

“What, Julian? What do you know? Please!”

“We’re all trying to respect his wishes, and you’re making this incredibly difficult,” Julian said. After a long contemplative pause, he continued. “But then again, none of us thought you’d remember him at all.” He sighed. “I need to think.”

“Julian.”

“Please just give me a little time, Gio. If you want to speak with Shane… I might… be able to arrange it. But I’m going to need time. And that means if Chloe wants to lock you up in your room when he’s around, then you’re going to have to grin and bear it.”

He wasn’t certain what to say to that, so he said nothing.

“Have I let you down yet?”

“No,” Giordan said. “No, you’ve been a great friend to me.”

“This Shane thing… it’s delicate. I care very much for the both of you, and I don’t want to see either of you hurt.”

 “Hurt?” he repeated. “Julian, can you at least tell me what happened? Did I do something to him? Did he do something to me?”

 “A little time,” he reminded him. “I’ll come by the house soon, and then we’ll talk.”

Raine O’Tierney is an always-writing, boundlessly enthusiastic, exclamation point addict! (!!!)
